![]() ![]() I don't know if Fireface or ADI 8 Pro converters are better, so i decided for the ADI 8 DS, because their converters (i heard) are slightly better than the others.Ĭonnecting my equipment to the analog out jacks in parallel to the D-Box would work, because the ADI 8 Pro sends on both the analog jacks and the D-SUB 25 outputs in parallel. I decided for a new ADI 8 DS converter, and going via DSub-25 cable to the D-Box, and going from the D-Box sum output into the new ADI DS. So i need either an additional DA converter or a patch bay to provide the 8 analog outs to be summed. Then the analog sum goes back to a AD converter into the DAW master bus, and from there via SPDIF to the D-Box for using the monitoring capabilities. So my assumption to do everything over SPDIF was wrong. I understood now that SPDIF transfers only 1 stereo channel. Can take any cheap cable? It can be very short.Īny other suggestions are highly welcome.įor those who search for the same in future, here are the answers to my questions, and the solition i go with: Can i connect my equipment to the analog out jacks in parallel to the D-Box connected to the DSub Outs? That would also be a deal, so i only have to buy 1 DSub cable. I see that both the ADI and D-Box offer DSub 25 ports. I guess the Fireface has the better AD Converters, right? I think this is cheaper than new DA converters.Ģ analog inputs for recording the sum are available on the Fireface and ADI. If AES / SPDIF is not the solution, i think about a Samson patch bay, to keep cabling to a minimum. Is AES and SPDIF the same? Do they transfer multiple or only a single channel? I see that the Dangerous D-Box also offers AES and/or SPDIF, and i see, that the Fireface also offers them, but i have absolutely no knowledge about these things.Ĭan you tell me please, if i need to buy additional DA Converters to provide the 8 analog out, or can i use these AES / SPDIF things somehow, or at least switch to AES/SPDIF quickly by software when it comes to recording? I would like to avoid cabling. The Fireface and the ADI have lots of I/O's connected to equipment, so there are no 8 analog outputs available, and i am not planning to sacrifice currently used outputs. Currently i have a RME Fireface 800 and a RME ADI 8 Pro as converters, and i am looking for best solution to get them connected to the D-Box. The vol pot did not work at all.I am about to buy a Dangerous Music D-Box to get into analog summing world by summing pre-rendered digital stems, e.g. This gear was supposed to be the centerpiece of my studio, replacing the computer-dependent RME/TotalMix setup of mine.Īnd yes, not to forget to mention: The first unit I got was faulty. Make sure you have foolproof power up sequence at yor studio Powering and unpowering this gear will cause massive bang on your speakers. Volume pot produces digital rattling noise – sometimes. Cue output is now derived from rear panel headphone out – unbalanced. However, the talkback is not routed there so this application of line out doesn't actually make any sense. Manual suggests (and also the customer service) that line outs could be used for external headphone amp. When using the remote app talkback, the engineer's voice is routed also to speakers. Yeah right, you can override this by using the remote app. Did they ever TEST this function? As a fact the talkback is so heavily compressed that pushing any button of the unit will produce a massive cracking sound to headphones output. The mechanical sound the button makes is like stinging with a stick to your eardrum, if you are not careful with the levels. The one that will take their projects over the top. Unfortunately many that don't.įirst of all, the talkback button is located right next to the talkback mic. Dangerous Music D-BOX Summing and Monitoring System with Switchable Analog Inputs, 2 Headphone Amplifiers, and Talkback Mic Engineers are always on the prowl for that special piece of gear. I'm quite dissappointed with the product. The main features are the volume control and talkback.
